Annoying style
By Michael McGrath
The writer has an annoying habit of always referring to two objects as "The former" and "The latter". This is ok a couple times, but the continual use of this gets very tiring on the reader, and indicates a lack of experience on the writer's part. The editor should have corrected this.
Also, the writer jumps back and forth in chronology, making the reader really work to keep events in their correct order.

Leftward bias
By Ben Powell
I acknowledge first and foremost that practically all politicians are self-serving, most are corrupt, and many are inept. However, this author presents a rather biased, anti-American slant rather than an objective look at the history of the Cuban Missile Crisis.
What is not mentioned are the true facts about the depth and breath with which the Soviet's had penetrated the intelligence communities of the U.S.A. from the late 1940's through the end of the 20th Century. The KGB station chief, known by many names, Alexander Foman being one while was a 'back channel' connection between the Kremlin and White House and did help disfuse the crisis [which Moscow started] he also was responsible for stealing the secrets for the Manhattan project.
Also, I fell that Mr. Black painted JFK as a rather incompetent bumbler who just managed to avert a nuclear war. On the contrary, if one takes the time to study the real history of President Kennedy one will find a very bright and patriotic man. Now, I can never agree with nor commend Mr. John F. Kennedy with how he behaved himself in private, that is between God and him, I do say that in my opinion JFK was the greatest president of the last 100 years and most assuredly was the last true American patriot to sit in the White House. He was the right man in the right place for 1962.
So approach "The Cuban Missile Crisis: A very brief history" with a large grain of salt and realize that while there were indeed some warmongers among the players on both sides the U.S. govenment at that time was striving for peace and not agitating for crisis as was the USSR.
