This one is as good as the first one written

This one is book number 44 in this series and at the time of this writing I think the number has now reached 60 or more. This is one of the few series in any genre, written for any age group, that I feel has held up as to quality of writing and story telling...the last book is as good as the first which was written years ago and that says a lot.

In his book it is round-up and branding time at the ranch located in the Pan Handle of Texas. And can you believe that Hank was NOT invited to help? It seems that in the past, through no fault of his own, Hank has made some error; errors that any guy could make considering the pressure of the job. Well Hank in this case finds a way to mess up again...while trying to save the herd from a bottomless pit built by gophers. Alas poor Hank. His owner decides he must be sent to obedience school and Slim is given the job of taking him....what a disaster!

My personal favorite element of these books is the conversations between Hank and his assistant security dog, Drover. The author, John R. Erickson is an absolute master at world play than mind games between two dogs. I find a perpetual smile on my lips as I read these books and more than once will breakout in laughter. If you know dogs you will easily visualize these conversation and as silly as some are, they actually make sense...if you look at the with a dog's eye view.

Now of course these books are classified as books for young people. I can assure you though that adults and kids of all ages will enjoy them just as much as a young one will. Sense of humor is universal and the author is able to pull off some pretty sophisticated verbal scenarios which can be equally shared and enjoyed by the entire family.

This was a library find.
