I enjoyed the book. I don't know if you can ever completely tell if someone is not telling the truth; however, some of these
suggestions have seemed to prove correct in the few times I have observed them. It is an interesting read, and I do
recommend it. If nothing else, it will cause you to be more alert to physical signs as well as what a person is saying to
decide if you want to believe it or just put it on the back burner. I do recommend this book

Great History Series

I have thoroughly enjoyed the Guerber Series for teaching history. I use it as a "spine", adding other books here and there, to expand on various events and ideas. These books were very well written, and though they can be understood by a second-grader, they don't talk down to the children as though they were babies. So an older student can use the books also, without feeling insulted. I'm sad to have reached the end of the series, and am now on a hunt for as good a coverage of the things that happened in the U.S. and world after 1905.

The year is 1866 and the United States is just beginning to rebuild after the horrific Civil War. The Yankees are still in full force in the South and there is vast devastation everywhere you look. Southerners are longing for the days of prosperity and wealth that once defined them, so when Colonel Blake Wallace organizes an expedition to Brazil, a land of new beginnings, he has no trouble finding people eager to go with him looking to start their lives anew. People like Confederate army nurse Eliza Crawford, James Callaway, former army doctor turned Baptist minister along with a vast mixture of people from all walks of life, carpenters, farmers, plantation owners and even former slaves each and every one of them is seeking a new start in life.

Colonel Blake Wallace is a man haunted by the specters of war, scenes too gruesome to dwell on but some days they come rushing back to him with a furor so intense he loses himself in their memories. Blake is hoping that he can forget it all and have a new life in the beautiful tropical country of Brazil. But can you really rebuild your life with so much unforgiveness in your heart? Will he be able to let go of it before he loses the one thing in his life he values the most...Eliza?

Eliza Crawford, former Army nurse, is a young beautiful widow forsaken by her family and carrying a horrible secret that has made her want to escape to Brazil. If the people on this expedition knew it the most would want to send her to a watery grave. Will Eliza find a friend or maybe more in the handsome Colonel Wallace? In order to have the peace she seeks will she finally fully surrender her will to God but will it come at a price too high...losing the love of Blake?

I love the excitement of being on the high seas once again with MaryLu at the helm, what an adventure it always is and this time it was more than just a great read, I learned something I never knew and I have lived in South Carolina all my life. I had never heard of the thousands of Southerners starting over in Brazil. So not only has MaryLu once again created a story so intriguing I found myself lost in its pages, I learned an important history lesson. There may not have been pirates (always my favorite) but there were quite a few breathtaking moments. I also found my emotions being tossed to and fro like the stormy seas upon which these pilgrims sailed. The characters are so real I found myself feeling as if they are family. I can't wait for the next installment of this tale of new beginnings to see how well my family is doing in their new Utopian Paradise.

Draws You in Like a Whirlpool From One Chapter to the Next!

I had no idea people from the South migrated en mass to Brazil to try and start over! What a great piece of history was uncovered for me by MaryLu!

What struck me this time, was MaryLu's ability to suck me into the next chapter. Seriously, if I knew I had to stop reading (to go to bed, make dinner, etc.) I had to stop at one of the mid-chapter breaks because if I waited to the end of the chapter there was no way I was putting it down! I read through it in 2 days.

What a great cast of characters, too! I felt like I was watching a mystery dinner while on board a ship! (How fun would that be?!) What will happen next? What quirk or detail will I learn now? What fun!

I also love how she doesn't shy away from the spiritual side of Christianity. We battle against powers of darkness not just flesh and blood, & that is woven into this story. Not many Christian adventure/romance writers dare go there but MaryLu does & she does it beautifully.

I immediately fell in love with Colonel Blake Wallace. Who wouldn't? His character is so well crafted! I can't help but admire him. And the rest of the crew? Oh...I can barely stand it knowing that there's more to be told in the coming series books & I can't get my hands on it yet!

This book is TOTALLY bookshelf worthy!

Engaging story masterfully written!!

Forsaken Dreams is yet another masterfully written and engaging story by MaryLu Tyndall that will sweep you off your feet and plunge you into an exciting sea-faring voyage full of danger, mystery, romance, and faith! Exceptionally written with such crisp and dramatic visualizations, you'll need to get your passports in order!

A relatively small brig called the New Hope, is about to embark on a perilous and arduous journey to deliver its passengers to Brazil. It is the hope and anticipation of this group of people from the South that they may begin their lives afresh with the promise of wealth in a land of plenty, after the unspeakable horrors of the Civil war which had devastated their lives.

But will they reach their destination? Ferocious storms plague their journey causing churning waves to explode upon and pound the ship mercilessly, while the crew struggle for control and their very lives. Many of those travelling have terrible and burdensome secrets that are in danger of being exposed and creating even more turmoil upon this ill-fated ship. Additionally, the Captain's instruments are either being broken or mysteriously disappearing. There is a foreboding evil that seems to shadow this ship and its voyage, but what or who is causing this darkness to pursue them?

Colonel Blake Wallace, a decorated war hero of the South, has organized this group of Southerners to sail with him to begin the new community. He loathes all things Northern for he lost his family, his home, and his land, and continues to suffer from a war injury. Blake had inflicted much damage on the enemy and rose to the rank of Colonel within just a year, thereby ensuring the appearance of his name on the Union's most-wanted list for war crimes.

Eliza Crawford grew up in the South but married a Yankee general. A war widow at 19, she is rejected and shunned by both the North and South. Keeping the particulars of her husband concealed, she desperately needs a new start where she can allow herself to have hope, and dreams, once more.

Will Blake, Eliza, and the various other intriguing passengers aboard the New Hope, find the peace, hope, and love, they long for? Or will their dreams be forever forsaken?

This phenomenal story will have your eyes flying over the pages with its fast-paced action and your pulse galloping as you hold your breath in anticipation. It will have you aching for the characters to have their dreams realized and will easily provoke you to dissolve in a flood of tears. Great for Students

I am a student who had to read this book and I couldn't understand most of the stuff Shakespeare was writing. We first started to read some other books with the Old English type writing and I got a C- in this class because I couldnt understand it. We just started reading Romeo and Juliet and I had the same problem so I bought this book. Boy, did it help me! I got an A in my class! Another feature which I liked was how the layout is put side-by-side so if you have to read during class, you'll be able to know where everyone is and if you dont understand it, just go to the other side.

No Fear is the best Shakespeare Ever

This is only partially a review of the story, but mostly a review on how much I love the No Fear series. It's SO useful. You have Shakespeare on one page, and the 'translation' into modern English on one page. I understand Shakespeare so much better now. I thought I understood Shakespeare when I read version where you have a footnote at the bottom saying what 'grandshire phrase' or something means. I did get the gist of it, but now I understand what the characters are saying and feeling, and I get all the little jokes. I can appreciate Shakespeare now, which was impossible before (then again, I'm only 12, it's probably easier for other people).
Not to mention in other versions I would read a little bit, glance down at the footnotes, read, glance down, re-read to find the word in the footnote, et cetera and it was very tedious. Now I just read a page of Shakespeare and then a page of modern, or vice versa. I do vice versa because then I understand how the character feels before reading the lines out loud, making this version very useful for putting on the play.
There is one problem. In most editions, you have various essays and notes. They don't have this in here. I don't take of stars for this because I personally never read the essays, but some people might.
Anyway, the story itself. Shakespeare is very poetic, and you can appreciate it more if you know what he's talking about. How ever, I hate 'love at first sight' with a burning passion. If you get over that, the characters and plot are engaging.
I read this because I was in the play. But this edition is so good I'm going to read other Shakespeare plays for my own enjoyment.

I am a high school English teacher looking at the different versions of classics texts available for Kindle (fire), so my review will not be for the play itself, but rather for the eBook--readability, layout, price, and other features.

This version of Romeo and Juliet is my favorite 99 cent version for several reasons. First, there are links to each act and scene. Next, the page layout is clean and easy to read with spaces between each speaker. Finally, the line formatting is in the correct iambic pentameter format, though there are no line numbers. There are no annotations or explanations, but none of the good 99 cent versions provide that either. Bottom line, easy to use!
