Not very Complete at all

The information was a little lacking. I had hoped, by the description of the book that there would be a few different lipstick recipes and that there would be a lot of different colors. Sadly, this book didn't live up to my expectation of it being the "Complete" book of lipsticks. Perhaps if it was called the book of one base recipe with a handful of colors, then I wouldn't have been disappointed. The recipe for the lipstick base was good, but the colors and the ingredients for them were not what I was after and it didn't offer any good alternative recipes for the color combinations. For example, I have liked to know how to make the recipe vegan, but there was no information about substitutions etc..

Excellent but $22.95 for only 59 minutes

Terry Jones brings his trademark enthusiasm, historical knowledge, superb delivery, and wit to this (introduction to a) classic piece that I gather he translated, as well as researched and read.

I don't know what the going rate is for this kind of research, and I did find it superb, but those on a limited budget might want to know that it is much shorter than they might have expected. (The other Jones piece from the generally-superior silksoundbooks imprint, I believe it is The Miller's Tale, has a preview which sounds equally superb, but is even shorter).

Disclaimer: I have no relation to amazon (other than customer) or silksoundbooks or Terry Jones (other than admirer of their work) and have received nothing for this review despite its almost unabashed enthusiasm.

I just discovered silksoundbooks on amazon/audible, and have found their titles to be far superior than the bulk of book-publisher-released-audio, because the book publishers, by contrast, in my opinion, do not really seem to care about the quality of their audios and seem to make random choices among generally-less-experienced and often-less-talented narrators for their books, swap out a great reader of a series for a mediocre one for no apparent reason, choose completely unsuited readers, insert random loud obnoxious music and nasal-voiced proprietary yammering that ruins a great book like being thrown into ice water from a sound sleep, etc.

I would normally assume that someone making claims such as mine was merely star-struck by actor names (silksoundbooks has a lot of famous actors), but that is not it.

I love a reader who is articulate, nuanced, and expressive, and conveys emotion, subtlety, and context well, and I don't care whether I have heard of them or whether they're famous.

For comparison, some of my favorite readers currently are Richard Mitchley, Stephen Briggs, Noah Galvin, Geraldine McEwan, Alan Rickman, Cornelius Garrett, Margaret Tyzack, Derek Jacobi, Simon Pegg, Lynn Redgrave, (Roddy McDowall, of whom there are comparatively few audiobooks, perhaps because he died before the technology really took off), Jonathan Pryce, Alden Ford, Judi Dench.

Should be called the treehuggers companion guide.

I am a prepper. I love what I do and I do what I love. I received this book as a gift for my birthday. Why, I don't know. It is basically written from a tree hugger's point of view and sugar coats very serious situations with the warm and fuzzies. Some of the suggestions offered in this book for "survival" will get you killed very quickly in an emergency or real life situation.
I don't know the author's background, but it does not appear to be based on any real time survival skills,i.e.
ex-military/police training, fire starting, shelter,food/water or weapons training. There is nothing in the book on personal defense with a weapon.
Some examples of the book's content: P.52."A Glass of Wine" -"Sometimes you just have to take a break from surviving and have a glass of wine." (will you be drinking this out of a metal canteen cup?) P.117 "How to Wash Your Hands" Two (2) pages of the necessity of washing your hands with soap and water. REALLY ???
P.162. "Traveling Sensibly" " Plan good music and othe entertainment and...remember to bring snacks and water for everyone" Again, REALLY????? Where does this lady think she is going, on a class trip????
The book's cover is very misleading also, as the reader is told that the book will help them prepare for the end of the world as we know it. If you are hoping to find that answer in this book, you will be very disappointed. Most of the contents of this book points to common sense ideas. Something that is sorely lacking in our society. It might appeal to housewives or nail biting corporate pinheads, but this is definitely NOT a prepper pocket companion. It almost reads like a Automobile Association of America's travel guide.
If you are a serious prepper who is looking for a source of information based on real survival skills, this book is just a waste of paper. But then again, you could use the paper to start a fire in your hobo stove. :)

Very little useful information in this book

This book's title and subtitle are very misleading. The book offers almost no useful information on how to prepare for any serious disaster. The book is all fluff and no stuff. There are much better books out there if you want to know more about general emergency preparedness or real prepping.

Great guide with essential information
By beginner prepper
As someone who knew nothing about prepping or organizing anything to prepare for a disaster, this book was a really great way to get started. There's plenty of information about making emergency plans, how much food and water to store, how to cook without the usual appliances, how to evacuate. It talks about how to prepare for different disasters and has resources for learning more. I definitely feel more prepared and ready with information I gained from this book.

The most disorganized drivel I have ever attempted to wade through.

I don't know if the author is a decent English teacher or not. One could spend time as I did perusing his book and never make heads or tails of the organization of his content. This feels more like a guy who had a voice recorder and sat around listening to himself talk. He then either had the audio file transcribed into text or he did it himself. In either case, there is no table of contents, no bibliography, no index--nothing that organizes his work. This is for all intents and purposes one long, rambling, unorganized question and answer session. He asked the questions and he gave the answers. I was looking for some specific information in conducting Skype-based TEFL classes. I am already certified as a TEFL instructor and have given classes on Skype already. A few good tips would have been worth the 7 bucks. Unfortunately, there was no way to find out whether that information was in this book because his information is not categorized. It might have been there and it might not have been. There was no way to tell. I was not going to waste my time reading 147 pages of his drivel to find out. I asked Amazon.com for a refund. Unless you are a complete neophyte in teaching English and are just looking for one man's take on teaching English via Skype (whether you are qualified or not), this book is a waste of your time and money.

Realistic and Practical

This is a great book! I was dubious at first until I read it and found it to be realistic, practical and it answers almost every question. It is written in a Q&A format and this takes you step by step through the process. This is not a get-rich-quick scheme but a practical method to earn a supplementary income online or even support yourself while retired or living in the developing world. I am an expatriate and living on a small sailboat. I was looking for a way to earn money online without the hassles of shipping items as with selling on eBay or Amazon. I have already started following this book and have acquired my first 3 stuidents to tutor online. One receives payment through PayPal or MoneyBookers. If you like me are looking for a supplementary income to your Social Security or added income to live out of the USA or Canada.. this is an ideal and very workable plan.

Tons of Useful Information for Teaching English Online

As someone who is planning to go abroad to teach English, I found this book very helpful. This book is very straightforward and realistic about how anyone can make money by teaching English at home through Skype. David Kessel really goes the extra mile to lay out all the details and examples in a fast paced, informative, easy to read format. Unlike a lot of 'work at home' advice, this book is very specific about how one can do this to make money and hard work is a central element of it. It does not try to sell you a 'feel good' dream that will never come true. Any book telling you otherwise is lying and is not worth the time to read it. Commit to teaching English from your computer and you can make it work. If you don't commit to it, you won't make money. Simple as that. What I really liked about this book is how direct and specific it is for how to set things up and start this kind of work.

The book is chock full of useful information, and it is broken down in FAQ form so that it is easy to read through. Plenty of helpful websites where you can teach through or advertise your services are given and there is even info on pre-work details, like setting up a PayPal account. Just about every angle and detail is covered, which is great because this book has range for helping anyone with any level of interest whatsoever in teaching online. Whether you want to try it full time or part time, teach through Skype or Yahoo messenger, teach Russian or Chinese students, teach at an online school or freelance, it is all covered. The level of detail is extremely helpful and you'll want to have pen and paper handy as you read through it so you can take notes and write down web addresses for later. There are plenty of examples of how a class is taught online, so you really get a great idea of how classes will work, what problems there may be, how long they are, what kinds of problems speakers of certain languages will typically have, and plenty of tips and tricks for getting through everything.
